[tab:Preparing your Negatives] Please follow these guidelines for correct file preparation:

1) Edit or clearly mark the negatives you wish to be scanned on their negative sleeves.
35mm, 6×6 and 6×7 will need to be trimmed so the desired frame is at the strip end.

2) Ensure your negs are as clean as possible before shipping.
Our operatives will dust and blow clean your negs but a wet clean may give you better results.

3) Ensure your negs are in negative sleeves or 5×4 box then package in a study envelope with reinforcement to prevent bending during transit. You can order our custom mailers which contain a prepaid special delivery packet and reinforced envelope.

4) Please send your negatives to Scan Unit by Royal Mail Special Delivery or by hand.

What is FFF Format

3F file format is a semi-automatic scan mode where the images are scanned at full-frame at full resolution at 16 bits per color. In this way the full tonal and colour range and crop of the original negative is extracted from the X-5. It is effectively a full spectrum “RAW” file of the negative. Once saved, much like a digital RAW file, the .fff can be processed many times without itself being altered with variations on Tonal output, colour balance, curves and levels being modified. Scan Unit will provide versions of the latest Flexcolor software to enable you to make you own adjustments.
